What I Love About Being in an Apartment

Sunday, January 15, 2017

So recently a lot of my friends are either saving for a house or have moved into a house with their partners. We are all at that age where we need to be adults which can be a little boring, scary and exciting at the same time. As many of you will know if you follow my YouTube channel Jed and I bought our own little place on the map back in August. We bought a 2 bed apartment that has some lovely features that makes it a little more unique than some other apartments. We had quite an exciting adventure when we decided to buy the place (which I will share with you all one day) and have loved every minute being in our own little space.

So with many of my friends and colleagues buying houses or saving really hard to get a house, it has sometimes made me think if we should have waited to get a house, but then when I think about our home I LOVE it! So... why am I writing this post, well I often feel there can be a lot pressure with having to get that 3 bedroom detached property with a garage and an en-suite with double parking etc in a great area with lots of potential and have space to bring up a family. Well I want to say to all those people out there who feel that pressure to not worry about having everything right away, many of us will live in a handful of properties and sometimes go bigger or down size so I think we should enjoy every property we live in.

So where am I going with this... well Jed and I bought our apartment without much thought and pretty much 100% on gut feeling (a feeling I don't always listen to and really should) and ever since our offer got accepted I have never looked back. I have had a couple of people say why didn't you wait and get a house, and to be honest I didn't really care I just wanted to be with Jed as quick as possible but still on the property ladder. Basically I want to share with you some of the perks of living in an apartment and not to dismiss them.

1, Safety
One of the things I love about being in apartment especially not being on the ground floor is that I feel safer, I like having the secure entrance into the main building.

2, Neighbours
We actually live in a relatively small building, so everyone looks out for each other by putting notices on the main board as you enter the building. We were also super lucky that the other person who is on our floor just happened to be an old friend of mine (spooky right) so when we go away we let her know and visa versa.

3, Everything is on one floor
I am quite an obsessively tidy person and I like to keep my home looking as close to show home as much as possible, so when it comes to cleaning up it's so much easier not going up and down the stairs all the time.  Everything is so much more accessible and if I need something from another room I don't have far to go (might sound lazy but I don't do to bad at getting my 10K steps in on my FitBit).

4,  Cleaning up
This one follows on from number 3 and that is cleaning, the more space, rooms and bathrooms you have the more there is to tidy and clean up. If it's your first home it can feel like the housework is never ending, so it can be good to ease yourself into it and start smaller and then when you move to that bigger home is won't seem like such a shock.

5, Socialising
With everyone wanting open plan these days, it's nice to be able to be with everyone when your cooking or getting ready. At Christmas we had both families over and it was so nice to be able to play games, eat and relax all in the same space.

There are many more great things about our home and being in an apartment but I don't want to write a massive post. What I think I would like for people to take away from this blog post is to forget what anyone else would say or think and if you want to own your own place and take one of the first steps into adulthood and an apartment suits you then go for it. Apartments gain value really quickly and we have already made a lot on ours in such a short time, so when we move we will enjoy decorating and planning how we want our next home to be. It can be fun gaining that extra space and outgrowing your home.

I hope you have enjoyed this post you lovely beautiful people.
